Rules

  • The 16 tiles make four 5-letter words, two across and two down, crossing at four tiles.
  • A move swaps any two tiles. The game starts you with 12.
  • Green means the letter is in its place. Yellow means its word needs that letter in another place. A tile where two words cross belongs to both, so its yellow may come from either.

How it decides

The solver tries every set of four words that uses exactly these 16 letters and fits every color, and works out the fewest swaps to each. When several grids fit, it asks for a test swap: one that never moves a tile some grid already has in place, keeps every grid within the swaps left, and whose new colors rule some out. When no swap can tell them apart, it lists them, the one with the most common words first.

Limits

  • The solver’s word list only approximates the game’s. If no grid fits the colors you entered, the game’s answer may use a word that isn’t in the solver’s word list.
  • The screenshot reader was tested on iPhone screenshots of the game in its dark theme. Android screenshots, other themes, photos of a screen and blurry images may need a fix in Edit board.
  • Your last puzzle is saved on this device for 30 minutes, so you can switch to the game and come back. The screenshot isn’t saved.
